Reviews for Street Medley

“Polished and beautiful, Rita Marquez’ new album “Street Medley” is a joy. Look inside and you’ll find superb playing and a genuine love affair that unfolds before your eyes….” – Vince Frates, Emmy award winning composer pianist

Rita Marquez’ new album Street Medley is warm and soulful. Her performance is masterful and her silky voice reminds me a little of Sarah Vaughn. She is so tastefully accompanied by Tommy James, Ron Steen and Dennis Caiazza who have such an elegant swing. Bobby Torres, Reinhard Melz and Renato Caranto add rich highlights to the songs. The emphasis is on melody on this record and Rita brings out the beauty of these standards.”  – Gordon Lee, Pianist, composer, arranger, and music educator

“Rita Marquez has a voice that is warm, ranging from velvety, earthy-rich, to pure, smooth and playfully sweet. With her album she takes us along on a journey, as she thoughtfully honors jazz standards while adding a few surprises. One can tell she is having a good time, and so is the ensemble.” – MR

Rita – Just finished listening to “Street Medley”. Really a great CD! Sound is well defined, meaning, to me, that you can hear all the instruments and the voice at their proper levels. You had some really great musicians backing you, but they didn’t “take over”, they supported you. Where they had a chance to shine, they did. And you sounded great. I heard your smile as you sang. Really, it comes through. Also, loved the ad lib “vocals” on Aruanda. Again, a great CD that sounds as if lots of care and musicality were put into it. Well done! – Bo Ayars, pianist composer, arranger and musical director to superstars from Streisand to Liberace

Dear Rita,

I popped your CD in on the way home this morning, and it “cost me” – in extra gas – the most delightful car trip, so I could procrastinate and listen to your AMAZING CD! My 10 minute ride home became a wondrous hour of listening to your amazing voice. I had never heard “Darn That Dream” before…really beautiful, as were the whole CD’s selections.

As a native New Yorker, one of the things I reminisce about most is going to the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel (Dixie Carter, Andrea Marcovicci), Cafe Carlyle (the immortal Bobby Short, of course)…and of seeing Lena Horne perform her Tony Award winning biographical show “The Lady and Her Music” on Broadway…all thrilling evenings of musical performance!

Looking forward to your upcoming CD release performance! It’ll be a privilege to see such a wonderful songstress as you (with great accompaniment).Your voice and selections, arrangements and musical stylings are truly top notch, and I’ve seen some of the very, very best!

All the best, Mark Camack
